GAP is here! For years we have been starved of great value and great design, not to mention cool & heart felt charities powered by retailers due to red tape that has protected the turf of Australian fashion businesses. But now, with changes made, Melbourne will finally see GAP officially opening the doors to its first ever Australian store on Thursday August 26.
The unveiling of the 1200 square-metre store in Melbourne’s Chadstone shopping centre will mark the opening of the first of two confirmed Gap stores in the Australian retail market. The second Gap store is set to open in Westfield Sydney in October 2010.
Gap’s local presence is being overseen by Brand Republic, a division of Busby Holdings Australia. Busby Holdings group marketing manager YC Eu said the company was counting down the days to August 26.
“We can’t wait to open the doors of one of the world’s most recognisable brands and offer the Gap experience to the Australian consumer,” Eu said.
“We are confident in offering a retail environment that is unparalleled in the current Australian market.”
To celebrate the opening of Gap Chadstone, the brand will host giveaways and a VIP shopping event for customers that have registered via its local website.
And also… just a little whisper on the horizon, Zara and H&M are also on their way down here. We cannot wait to see the explosion of value retailing in Australia after a lengthy period of fellow consumers being slightly ripped off when it comes to RRP on clothing. BIG W & Target definitely have their eye on this market by introducing lines designed by respectable Australian designers, but now with these heavy hitters sailing down, expect a pleasant change fella! Over and out!
