Calling it out across the land. This lumber-jack of Style is the signature card for all 30 year olds who want to oscillate between carefree check shirts matched back with the latest denim, to the lean mean gun-metal suit, loose enough to bust some ‘Fred Astaire ease’ moves on the dance floor without splitting your crotch.
So where – was the style ‘beginning’ for this dude who is bringing sexy back? And let me tell you, a man who can be requested year after year to be the musical muse for the largest fashion parade on earth, ‘Victoria Secrets’ Angels’, must be doing something right! Don’t you agree?
Well, for starters, he’s only 29 years old. Gulp. Has won six Grammy’s, two Emmy’s and the hearts of many. His fame started on Star Search, it then went to Disney, then met future band mate JC Chasez, and finally N’Sync. Here people took notice. A lot, of notice.
In 2002, he released his debut solo album, Justified, which sold more than 7 million copies worldwide. The album was a commercial success, spawning the hits “Cry Me a River” and “Rock Your Body”. Timberlake continued his success with his second solo album, FutureSex/LoveSounds (2006), debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, and produced the US number-one hit singles “SexyBack”, “My Love”, and “What Goes Around…/…Comes Around”.
Aside from music, he has also begun an acting career, while his other ventures include record label Tennman Records, fashion label William Rast, and the restaurants Destino and Southern Hospitality.
If you didn’t know, William Rast is Justin Timberlake making designer clothes affordable for fans. Do they optimize him? Yeah of course. That’s what most designers do. They take their style and they make it authentic and available to the public. If you look at some of the William Rast images, you’ll see lots of T-shirts. And all matched back to premium denim. Colours? Always masculine. You won’t find Paul Smith hot pinks or lemons in this range. And we like that. Not that we don’t like Mr Smith, we just know there are some men out there who would prefer to remain, how do you say…understated.
The key item Stig really likes is the checked shirts. Why? I really feel the T-shirt category is over-saturated and the checked shirt is short-sleeved or long-sleeved and buttoned. It adds a little extra to the semi-casual arena and gets you out of the runt of T-shirt mania. Some dudes say ‘you can never have too many T-shirts’…ummmm, well yes you can.
Go Military this season and check out the long and short sleeved khaki’s. Buttons, zipped, detailed and just busy enough that you don’t need to accessorise. Great.
So to do this all on a budget, let’s have a look at the limited edition William Rast collection at U.S. department store Target. The “SexyBack” hit maker launched the William Rast line with his childhood friend Trace Ayala in 2005 and the pair has now partnered with Target bosses to debut a special range for customers late 2010. The fashions, which include denim, outerwear and sportswear, will be available for men and women, and will be available for one month from December. William Rast isn’t the only luxury label to release a more cost conscientious collection for Target – top designers Jean Paul Gaultier and Zac Posen have previously collaborated with the department store for similar deals.
So guys, if you liked ‘Social Network’ and you like the fact that JT is at the top of his game, he’s sexy, confident and more importantly respected and LIKED…then check out his style. It’s understated, youthful, masculine and the girls love him!
Ps: Don’t try to hard to style like Justin. Work everything around your current wardrobe and not your accessories.
