You don’t need to be sweltering (like we are this Summer downunder), to have a bright and sunny outlook to life. Michael Bastian certainly isn’t feeling under the weather in a increasingly cold New York. The evidence is found in his Spring 2011 show which was by all accounts an “exuberant celebration of strength and athleticism, and further proof of the evident joy this designer takes in his work”.
Inspired by Navy SEALs and the crew of Jacques Cousteau’s Calypso, Bastian take on classic American sportswear emphasized primary colours, especially yellow while focusing on a sporty signature shorts, pairing them with everything from a rugby shirt to alpaca and cashmere knits. Nice. www.michaelbastiannyc.com

Gucci x Jay-Z ‘Decoded’ Leather Jacket
So… heard that Jay-Z is launching his memoir … ‘Decoded’? The rapper’s tome is a first-person memoir with detailed discussions of his most famous and provocative lyrics. Jay-Z collaborated with former The Source editor Dream Hampton on the book, which includes interviews with Jay-Z’s family and friends as well as the rapper, himself. Over its 336 pages, ‘Decoded‘ traces Jay-Z’s life from his childhood in Brooklyn’s Marcy Projects to his years as a teen drug dealer to becoming a hip-hop superstar, and it also explores Jay-Z’s creative process.
Prior to the launch however, clues and parts of the book are popping up all around New York up to the official launch. Now the Gucci flagship store in New York also did a special “Decoded” window display, printing parts of the book on the lining of a leather jacket, especially designed for the window by Gucci creative director Frida Giannini. Once the window display is taken down, the jacket will be gifted to the artist. ‘Decoded’ hits bookstores on November 16th, 2010.
