When you say his name it sounds like a French delicacy. When you see his face, you want to rough it up because it’s a bit too pretty. Yet, what is it about this British actor/model that makes you know, categorically, that he’s the next hot thing to watch?
Last month, I was asked along to see a movie called, “I Am Number Four”. The preview looked exciting in this teen-friendly fantasy film, but the lead subjects looked a little too manufactured. The main hook for me to check out the film was to see Miss Teresa Palmer in action, who I had met previously in a well known Australian designer’s studio.
So as my forecasting mind hummed through the opening 10 minutes of the movie, I saw the usual theme. Boy taken from family, boy angry, boy moves around a lot, boy meets girl, boy likes girl, boy falls in love with girl and can’t tell her, girl thinks boy doesn’t like her cause he can’t TELL her, boy’s frustration unleashes extraordinary power, girl gets thrilled to see she has something more in this man than she could ever imagine and finally after boy defeats all the bad guys, boy and girl get together. Then….boy leaves; to be a hero for the planet. And girl stares as he rides into the sunset.
Well, after that ten minutes (actually it was about 2) I noticed something quite unique about this boy. His looks, his movability, his agility, and a presence. It may be because this boy, Alex Pettyfer has been in showbiz since a very young age, or that he’s simply one of those guys who is a natural. I think it’s a mix of both.
This Alien-meets-Twilight romance adventure doesn’t go unscathed from typical Hollywood gossip. It’s been said that Pettyfer now dating co-star Dianna Agron, which has in turn bubbled a lot of interests as they are compared to similar onscreen romance turned off screen dating couple – Stewart and Pattinson. The comparisons with Robert Pattinson are inevitable – good-looking young British actor, star of a new fantasy/romance movie franchise, dating his US co-star – so we imagine the A-Petz nickname can’t be far away. Regardless, with Pettyfer having a well rounded youth experience of the movie/arts world, it looks like 2011 could be the year that he goes global. And turns from baby faced boy (yes I used that word repetitively on purpose) to a man!
Some of you may also recognise Pettyfer from his alternative career: as a child model for Ralph Lauren and Gap, as well as more recently starring in Burberry’s spring/summer 2008 and 2009 campaigns and in the ad for its men’s fragrance The Beat.
So his style? Pettyfer is very agile. From his modeling days you can see his comfort in front of a camera. Portrait shots that make him look like a young Errol Flynn, candid red carpet shots showing his debonaire glances similar to movie stars that have gone before him, a recent photo shoot of him donning an Armani suit places him in the top 20 males models in demand at present. There is an air about Pettyfer that is mature beyond his years. The MSP office considers he’s from another planet. Yet, many young professionals in the arts and music scene tend to have this fearlessness about their future. They see that it’s not the stability of the company that is going to keep them employed, it’s the stability of their belief system and surrounding themselves with wise counsel that will keep them grounded and inline.
Pettyfer’s solid character cuts through every photograph that’s taken. Each scene that is shot exudes a gentleman’s elegance of tonal and physical grace. Each movie has been carefully selected to show his understanding of association. MSP are pretty impressed with one of the latest films he’s signed up to. A modern-day Beauty and the Beast film set to be released in July 2011, called Beastly. Starring along side Vanessa Hudgens, Neil Patrick Harris and Mary-Kate Olsen, Pettyfer is portrayed as a handsome, insanely rich New York teen who is transformed into a hideous monster in order to find true love.
Everything that MSP like to discuss is pretty much exposed in this film. One of our biggest conquests in life is to find that person who loves you for who you are. Accepts the good and the bad and the personal journey that you are on. Love is never ugly. It’s rounded, grounded and of a sound existence. Love is patient and kind and sees through manipulation and pride without anger or judgment. Some people need big lessons to get them to a place of true humility. As shown in the Beastly movie.
All we can say is that we are very much looking forward to seeing Pettyfer grow as a man and an artist. And as he has chosen to develop his talents, we also encourage our MSP followers too also.
