Men’s Thread Trends – April 2011

It’s only after I compiled this list of April’s hottest menswear trends, that I realised that there was a theme coming through – casual and relaxed – with a lean towards denim and blues to really pull through that chilled out look.

When we could all easily let the daily struggle to survive get to us, or get wound up by earthquakes in Japan, war and crisis in the Middle East, failed economies in Europe and a sinking confidence in the US, we need to STOP, step back, take a deep breath, fight off the panic, replace that with courage and good sense, while looking optimistically yet wisely at a future that’s uncertain …

… and we can definitely and confidently do it in these threads …

1/ The latest (and hairiest) from Wrangler

Bearded male model (this is the current fad), Will Lewis models Wrangler‘s Spring 2011 collection.  Inspired by all things Americana, this classic range boasts the name Worn Across America and features deep blue rinses, relaxed button-downs, casual tees and laid back elegance ensuring Wranglers timelessness and accessibility.

2/ QuirkyCool Albert Frames from Illesteva

These Albert frames from quirky eyewear label Illesteva, are a deeper, more meaningful approach to modern eyewear. FYI – Illesteva’s aesthetic involves “pushing normal boundaries of design by exploring fresh shapes and materials like acetate and bamboo, titanium and natural buffalo horn, with each new frame design”. Back to the Alberts … they’re built  thicker than most sunglasses with a lens this small – which makes them unique, and more importantly they’re hand-made in France, and you know the French … Available in tortoiseshell of red stone. We like.

3/ Ronnie Fieg ‘Clarks’ it …

Ronnie Fieg presents his latest work with Clarks Originals. He worked on the classic Desert Boot and presents it in a “slate blue” colorway. This time around a nice lookbook shoot was produced to introduce the new boots, featuring Theophilus London, the Saturday’s crew and Greg Weinstein. Priced at $92, 300 pairs of the Slate Blue Desert boots will be available this Friday, April 8th at the David Z flagship (556 Broadway 212.431.5450) as well as the website at 10am Est.

4/ Hermes ‘redenims’ the necktie

Hermes delivers a denim necktie as part of their Spring 2011 collection. It features the traditional Hermes orange stitching on the bottom end and is discreetly marked with a saddle tack to finish it off properly.  Wear it casually or step up your suiting. Available from Hermes.

5/ Comme de Garcon/Junya Watanabe’s ultimate cool cat hat

As part of their Spring/Summer 2011 Collection, Comme des Garcons Junya Watanabe MAN linked up with heritage Italian hat maker Borsalino. The 100% wool hat comes with a matching navy band with Borsalino logo hit. A simple, yet modern interpretation of this classic hat. It is now available from Firmament.

6/ Liberty of London Limited Denim

Liberty of London continues their aggressive collaborative campaign – the latest in the form of selvedge denim with the Edwin line. These classic Edwin ED-55 denim’s are made from our exclusive 140z Japanese Red Selvage, with the subtle addition of the classic Liberty print used in the detailing of some of the internal components of the denim. This is a truly beautiful pair of jeans, limited to just 100 pieces.

7/ You won’t slip up with Maians ‘Sisto Rejilla’ slip-ons

Maians are the “original Spanish Plimsoll” company it would seem. Their Spring 2011 “Sisto Rejilla” slip-ons offer an open grate form that allows the shoe and foot to breathe in the warm months. Ultra casual wear that’s proper for a blast of equatorial heat.

8/ Emerging designer spotlight: Burkman Bros

Burkman Bros. lets travel lay the groundwork for fall’s collection. A label in the process of expanding worldwide, the brand’s adventures from Copenhagen to Tokyo have shaped the latest outing. From Nordic-inspired knits to bespoken patterns and an eclectic sense of Americana, Burkman Bros. approaches the season with their largest collection to date. Layered and ready for the man of many an adventure, a print-intensive lineup ushers forth an accessible fall with chinos, shirting and outerwear forming the core of a successful outing.

That’s all folks. Travel well, travel safe, travel wise and travel stylish this April.
