Black Sails by Nautica #NYFW 2014

Nautica has been a powerhouse in the lifestyle worlds of the “adventurer” archetype of man. Nautica’s Fall 14 collection at New York Fashion Week showcased a dark and masculine appeal with open-top boots, full length chinos styled to a three-quarter height showing off pops of red, blue and yellow sock-wear. Striding down the runway were models donning textiles and textures capable of turning any woman’s eye. These guys aren’t metro or retro, but an army of gents striding to guitar heavy rock music, deadly serious about their ocean sports.

Pops of yellow, blue and red headlined the primary wow colors for the brand, with some brilliant mastery on fabrics in-between to shine, rough up, break out and warm you up in any storm.

Most alluring were the woollens and the knits. Turtlenecks looking like your best friend draping protectively across shoulders and torsos. Leather was also an appeal as the chosen material for trousers along side black chinos, jeans and dropped crotch slacks. Fur lined parka hoodies were also a signature element that Nautica threw into the mix this season on metallic windcheaters. Awesome!

Nautica, a modern American classic, offers quality, design and value while capturing the essence of an active, adventurous and spirited lifestyle. Behind the scenes, in preparation for New York Fashion Week, we see Head of Design, Christopher Cox work with his team to get this seasons collection on the right wave!

Founded in 1983, Nautica has evolved from a collection of men’s outerwear to a leading global lifestyle brand with products ranging from men’s, women’s and children’s apparel and accessories to a complete home collection. Now part of VF Corporation, a leader in branded quality apparel, Nautica has become one of the most important American lifestyle brands throughout the world.

Nautica took its name from the Latin word “Nauticus” for ship. Since one of mankind’s first accomplishments in exploring the world was to take to the seas, a spinnaker logo was designed as a symbol of adventure, action and classicism.

Today the world of Nautica represents both a rediscovery and reinterpretation of what Americans have always wanted to wear. Nautica is currently available in more than 64 countries with more than 170 Nautica branded stores worldwide.
