Men’s Fashion Designers 2010

Burberry2010 I truly believe that knowledge is power. And in Style and Fashion, you need to know who YOU are to really wear your clothes well. In our E-book we talk through all the points you need to know so it’s easy for you to create a platform for yourself that is a base from where you can creatively style from. Exciting!

There are many great designers throughout the world, who have made their mark through innovation and integrity. And of course, there are many new, fresh and exciting designers who have no loyalty in the market place, but are just as great in their infancy as the Parisian Fashion House designers we now see posted on bus shelters and billboards.

Understanding the mission statement, or the heart beat of a designer brings you closer to what they do, and why they do what they do. Many say fashion is fickle. Many say it’s unnecessary. Well, we all need clothes on our backs, and these people saw many many centuries ago that you could do so with a little more flare, a little more sophistication.

Thomas Burberry, a 21-year old draper’s apprentice opened a small outfitters shop in Hampshire, England. He committed himself to quality and innovation in fabric and outerwear design, which earned him a loyal following and by 1870, his shop was now an emporium.

15 years forward, Burberry developed a trenchcoat that was adopted by the British officers during the Boer War. And to this day that same design walks the streets proudly and is one of Burberry’s staple pieces in store. The Equestrian Knight trademark which appeared in 1901 with the word ‘Prorsum’ is Latin for Forward. And fast-forwarding to today, we see the same innovative and ‘giving’ that was behind Burberry 150 years ago, now with their Burberry Foundation which is to help young people realise their dreams and potential through the power of their creativity.

The Burberry Foundation is committed to dedicating its global resources to help young people build confidence, make connections in their communities, and grasp opportunities to succeed. The aim of the Foundation is to empower young people to use their intellectual creativity — that which will help them to imagine and achieve their life goals.

MenStylePower salute you Burberry for the consistency to see others succeed, without losing the value of family, friends and social consciousness.

What makes a man attractive to a woman?

We can go around in circles and say that to be attractive to a woman, you need to be handsome, tall, dark, well dressed and have a deep, sultry voice that can melt icing off a cupcake. But that sort of ‘handsome’ can only sustain the attraction in a woman for so long.

Dating coach Christine Akiteng (www.torontosnumber1datedoctor.com) offers the following advice on what it takes to become the man women love to love!

Men can easily sabotage their chances with women by having a paralyzing fear of women – feeling that they must exhaustively understand them and then use that “knowledge” to “force women to yield” and in turn win women’s love, respect and devotion. The quest to “force them to yield” creates the illusion of “power over the enemy” because it keeps the mind in an overactive, continually problem solving “do something” state even if it’s self-destructive.

This fear-driven pseudo-logic so often suppresses the natural ability to act in the “now”, and engage in moment-to-moment experiences and truly experience intimacy with another.  So you find that you’re not making that “click” because you have so internalized the fear of vulnerability and emotional intimacy that sometimes you don’t even recognize the fear anymore. In your world, it becomes an absolute truth that women = too risky. And you no longer recall why or how you came to that conclusion, just that it is.

In your most vulnerable moments, your core fear-driven feelings override your feelings of love making you gravitate toward fear driven approaches rather than love driven ones. But this fear is groundless since it’s just your own fear of your own inadequacies, insecurities and self. Fear of self is the greatest of all terrors, the deepest of all dread, the commonest of all mistakes. From it grows failure. From it comes loneliness. Every time you think you are putting your ‘best’ foot forward you find that you are only stepping on your own feet. It’s mentally stressful, emotionally frustrating and very isolating.

You can overcome your fear of women by simply overcoming the fear of yourself. Overcoming fear of self is the key. Every kind of fear amounts, in the last analysis, to fear of self; for if there were no fear of your innermost self, you could not possibly fear anything in life. You do not need to be afraid of women. You do not need to necessarily “fight” them to win them. You can become so naturally charming just by sitting down, talking to them, warming their hearts and inspiring their romantic feelings and sexual desires. They’re people too, however hard it might be to hear that.

As soon as you internalize this simple TRUTH and start treating women (and other people) like human beings with their own thoughts, feelings, needs, wants, desires, strengths, weaknesses, ways of being etc. (and you don’t even have to understand them just open yourself to knowing them that way) you will find that you can actually be natural and at ease with them, you can be funny, interesting and totally endearing in a natural way. Your experiences are easy, refreshing and fun. No stress, no sweaty palms, no overwhelming anxiety and no pressure to be “perfect”.

You being open, willing to listen, and demonstrating the freedom to be effortlessly human and naturally charming (which most of us seem to have forgotten how) is the sexiest and most attractive trait of all attractive traits. You doing this will earn a massive brownie point from her. And we’re on a mission for a sugar hit!

There’s also another way to earn those brownie points. Leaving a legacy. Helping those weaker than yourself. How?

Try ‘teaching orphans English while on your surfing trip to an exotic destination, or how about dedicating your time to underprivileged students at a university. This, we can assure you, is a huge turn on for a woman.

Here are 5 men who have been extremely successful in their career of choice, and behind the scenes, have dedicated their hearts to a worthy and important cause.

Wall Street Greed, Money … Power?

By StyleMeister  //  Chivalry, The Inner Man  //  18 Comments

We’ve all had our moments of greed, when we temporarily get lost in the fantasy that happiness is equivalent to a higher paycheck and a lavish lifestyle. Worse still, when driven to financial desperation or deep envy, we’ve all tossed around doing whatever it takes to become better, richer and more powerful than the Joneses.

No better is this illustrated than in Oliver Stone’s 1987 movie Wall Street, that that although sought to prosecute the values underpinning American capitalism, ended up egging on an entire generation of young bankers and investment into believing that financial gain and greed was a virtue.WS2

As a social documentary, an even as art, the original ‘Wall Street’ was a great success. It did well at the box office, won Michael Douglas an Oscar for best actor, and remains one of the very few financial movies ever made in which financiers see anything like a realistic version of themselves.

“As a vehicle for social change, however, the movie was a catastrophe. It did not show Wall Street in its best light, yet Wall Street was, by far, the movie’s most enthusiastic audience. It has endured not because it hit its intended target but because it missed it: people who work on Wall Street still love it. And not just any Wall Street people but precisely those who might have either taken Stone’s morality tale to heart or been offended by it. To wit, not long before hedge-fund manager Seth Tobias was found dead in his Florida swimming pool, with an unlucky mixture of cocaine, Ambien, and alcohol in his bloodstream, he gave an interview for Wall Street’s DVD bonus reel, in which he said, ‘I remember when I saw the movie in 1987. I recall saying, That’s what I want to be. I want to start out as Bud Fox and end up as Gordon Gekko.’

Michael Douglas often expresses his astonishment at the many Wall Street males who have sought him out in public places just to say, “Man, I want to tell you, you are the single biggest reason I got into the business. I watched Wall Street, and I wanted to be Gordon Gekko.” The film’s equally perplexed screenwriter, Stanley Weiser, has made the same point, in a different way. “We wanted to capture the hyper-materialism of the culture,” he said. ‘That was always the intent of the movie. Not to make Gordon Gekko a hero.’” (VANITY FAIR April 2010)

The second instalment of the cultural phenomenon, “Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps”, resurrects Michael Douglas’s Oscar®-winning role as Gordon Gekko. It follows him as he emerges from a lengthy prison stint and finds himself on the outside of a world he once dominated. He now has to play catch-up, redefine himself in a different era and become relevant again, and this time his sidekick is a young, idealistic investment banker (Shia LaBeouf) who learns the hard way that Gekko is still a master manipulator.

The new storyline is a follow-up to its predecessor which chronicled the infamous ‘greedy Eighties’ – more than just a dress rehearsal for one of the most spectacular greed surges in history, with jaw-dropping degrees of stockmarket folly, corporate skullduggery, decadence, excess and high-octane narcissism. But, just as with the ‘lessons of the Eighties’, the ‘warnings of the late Nineties’ fell on deaf ears.

The 2009 Global Financial Crisis was a wake up call to many that master manipulators in the world of finance are still very real and alive. The mythic avenue that runs east from Broadway to South Street on the East River, through the historical center of the Financial District was, until 2009, the nirvana for many an investment banker and trader. After the GFC, it became the maligned home of greed and missed opportunity as millions around the world were adversely affected by the greed of a few. The crisis illustrated that more money and more power does not translate to more happiness and peace and that greed is temporarily sweet for the economy but eventually poor for the soul and pocket.

Unchecked greed can also be so harmful to the environment that it comes back to haunt the economy. In fact, the single largest hitch with greed culture and greed economics is the long-term crushing effects these have on the planet. That is a monumental problem that none of today’s greed enthusiasts have been able to solve as sociologists continue to warn that greed could be our ultimate undoing as a species and civilization.

So although the original ‘Wall Street’ succeeded brilliantly in capturing a culture, it failed miserably as a call for change. To the director’s dismay, thousands of financial hotshots dreamed of becoming Gordon Gekko—and the rest is recent history.

MSP Gents beware; ‘Gordon Gekko’ is a false hero in a navel-gazing, self-indulgent world and greed … is NOT good. Instead seek to be a better more peaceful/content man within, remembering that the more tranquil a man becomes, the greater is his success, his influence and his power for good.

“There is no calamity greater than lavish desires, no greater guilt than discontentment and no greater disaster than greed.” Lao Tzu, CHINESE philosopher (500 BC).

Men’s Designer Clothing

Gucci skinning suitingIt seems to be that the craze for Men’s Designer Clothing is really breaking out. Here at Men’s Style Power, we show you a classic and traditional means to an end for every man to dress well and feel on top of the world. But our readers are wanting something a little more… well, designer! So here goes;

Calvin KleinGivenchyDior HommeGianfranco FerreRoberto Cavalli and JPG are just a few to watch for stunning, designer classics. Oh Burberry, Gucci and Prada are also a ‘no brainer’ choice of designer to put on your bod.

Now let’s get to the talk of the moment as it’s freezing in the northern hemisphere and the southern lands are about to step into Autumn/Winter. There has been a lot of talk about suits, and predominately the pin-stripe. But I have also seen an edgy trend starting for the very skinny suit that allows for layering on top. You add oversized cardigans and a huge scarf for that very cocoon-y feeling. There’s a mixture of texture and pattern among the layers, which are so important to get through a cold winter.

So if you haven’t bought anything for a while, start with a spanking new suit. And enjoy it for the years to come!

Vampires and their Hair

RPQuite unknown and obviously youthful, Kristen and Robert have exposed their real-life relationship which obviously has developed from their silver screen tension. Clearly Robert Pattinson is the heart-throb of nearly every teenage girl on the planet. And included in this group are Gen X and Baby-boomers who are happy to reminisce on such days when innocence of a first love flourished. Robbie has by-passed the Hollywood code of conduct and rule book, to draw in his co-star with chivalry, gentlemanship and respect. Wow – those are words not used nearly enough in the media these days, but the question remains…are they here to stay or are we going to have another Rihanna and Chris Brown saga?

Pattinson is to me, very uncomfortable in real life. He’s shy, awkward and with his angular face washed of the Vampire makeup of the alluring character Edward Cullen, the dangerous predator disappears and the true person remains. Feeling comfortable in your own skin must be one of the most difficult life lessons, and yet many of us blokes don’t get it until we’re starting to get that salt and pepper look on top and we give in. Oh well, youth has eluded me so I may as well just accept my look. Yes! Do that! But do it now.

The Vamprish style has always been controlled by black. Black isn’t a colour, it’s a shade. So it will sit well on anyone. Because the pupils of our eyes are complimented and the composition of this shade brings focus to the face. The timeless look of this style is in the fusion of loose fitting jeans, ties, vests and tailored jackets. Absolutely no jewellery. The best palette is charcoal, grey, deep blue, black, metallic and white. And as for the hair – that ‘just got out of bed’ look is the go.

Only the Brave

The KnightI’m sensing a magnificent movement that is about to arrive on the shores of every man’s hometown. And it’s being driven by the consumer’s heart. Now, I’m not going to go all soppy on you and fall into a blubbering mess and cry ‘it’s finally here!’, but the ‘tone of voice’ that keeps popping up when I am researching new trends is starting to form a pattern of clouds in the sky….spelling out – Chivalry.

To be honest this makes my heart pound just a little bit harder and my biceps seem to nostalgically remember a muscle memory of centuries past when I most likely held a sword and screamed a line out of BraveHeart. But what’s happening is men (and women – believe it boys!) realise that Fashion is not art, it’s porn and Style is king….literally. But we’re not talking about a physical style here. It’s spiritual and emotional. A ‘code’ of conduct that is starting to weave its way into every fibre of cloth and human matter because somewhere along the way, we’ve had enough.

I’m a big believer in entrepreneurs. They pioneer through mangroves and cut a new path that gives a boost to the economy and a livelihood to families. When these entrepreneurs have a company value system that embraces ethics and their CEO/founder lives it, we are one happy family. Renzo Russo, CEO/ Founder of Diesel, and Richard Branson (we all know who he is) are two of my favourites, because they walk the talk.

Renzo is talking about ‘only the brave’. The mantra is plastered on everything from tight T-shirts to the lobby of Diesel’s deliciously industrial corporate offices. And perhaps constantly being reminded of these three little words is exactly what keeps Rosso running. He’s investing in up and coming designers and expanding into new industries like restaurants and furniture.

Branson, well, do we need to say more? It’s a name to which we all feel we’re personally acquainted to as he’s sooooo personal himself and he cares for people. What gets him out of bed everyday is he wants to find a new way to give people a good time. A hero!

So you see….there is a change of focus. Men are moving towards five archetypes that have been lost in the dark ages for a long time now. The Hero, The Warrior, The Priest, The King and The Hunter. Why? Because as corporations fail us, and society’s greed claims us, a rise to the human spirit is what’s driving us. Men have a natural code to protect and fight for what he believes in. It’s in his blood stream. So gents, dress like you mean business, and I mean ‘business’!

The Stylemeisters talk about all 5 male archetypes in their e-book.

You don’t need to be Royalty to have a Tailor!

Enzo Satori - translation - Italian Stallion! It’s downright unseemly to have a tear in the crotch of your trousers right? So where do you go to mend this? Is there a service where someone can stop by your place to give you what you want in terms of fashion attire? And not just any attire; we’re talking custom made suiting and tailoring.

In Miami, USA, an absolute veteran has moved into his own field of providing custom made suiting and tailoring right in the comfort of your own retreat.
He knew he could lower the price of custom made suits by eliminating the retail overheads and use his contacts to access fabric mills in various countries. The Stylemeisters like him already!

The masked hero, sends out an army of his highly trained reps to men’s doorsteps to measure shoulder widths, arms lengths, torsos, waist size and more, to tailor up a magnificent suite for your body. He then ships your specs to meticulous tailors in Hong Kong who make your power suit within weeks. So who is this genius? We’re talking about Enzo Sartori.

Enzo is a perfectionist when it comes to fitting the right suit to your body shape and size. He’s also passionate about the right fabric for your attire. The secret mills that he sources his product from also make suites for Calvin Klein and Valentino, so you are getting a super deal!

The Stylemeisters are very pleased to see the return of the suit. It seems that disposable fashion is starting to wane and the nostalgic days of old are returning with chivalry. You don’t need to be part of the Royal lineage to have a tailor, all you need is a mobile phone to call Enzo and sit back with a cognac and cigar for your perfect suit to arrive.

Confidence to look good!

It's time to find the best YOU!

It's time to find the best YOU!

Clothes make the man. We say it over and over in our E-book. If you don’t believe me, take a close look at the women who stare you up and down when you walk through the street. A-huh, they are checking you out. And since the first impression is your external architectural style-map (because they haven’t had a moment to sit down and listen to your incredible take on world politics) this is what you’ll be judged on. Or think back to that pang of jealousy you felt the last time you were sitting in a pub with some mates, downing a Leffe Blond Belgium Beer (now that’s a nice one) and you saw an impeccably dressed guy walk into the pub and immediately command the attention of the room. Your jealousy was scoffing sentences in your head like, ‘humph, so what he looks like Brad Pitt with his Armani suit on. It’s probably fake. Who cares, I don’t. I’ve got $1mill in the bank and I’m driving a Maserati. Twit, if he thinks he can walk in here as if he owns the place’. Ha – I’m laughing as ten years ago I probably did that! But back to the topic at hand. You want to be that guy! You want to command the attention of the room. You want to have every head turn to you when you walk adorning your Prada suit. Right?!

We have created an E-book that we’re pretty chuffed about because it’s covering so many topic to bring the best man out in YOU. When you’re not sure what to ditch in your wardrobe, or what pieces to invest in for your new ‘look’, then we have the most classic, and edgy tips for you. We know that women have been driving and dominating the fashion scene for decades, and now, more than ever (in this time of instant gratification), we need clarity and simplicity. Don’t get dismayed with advertisements screaming ‘buy me, buy me’…we know you’re confused. So we went to work, late nights, sleepless nights (Well that was Style-meister) to help you out. You don’t need to blow your savings budget to upgrade your wardrobe. Take it one step at a time. We know when you feel good about your appearance, you’ll naturally project confidence.
