Best Jeans for Men
Distressed, ripped, tattooed or all-dark and sleek – jeans are now very OK, Monday to Friday, 9 to 5, in the office and out of it, as everyday wear in men’s clothing. They’re so ‘in’, that Yves Saint Laurent even once commented that, “I wish I had invented blue jeans. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity – all I hope for in my clothes.”
When it comes to jeans dudes, you don’t have to go super-tight, but at the same time, don’t be afraid of going to a tighter cut than what you might normally feel comfortable in. Slim tapered jeans look great on most men, but if you’re not game, a straight leg or boot cut will function just as well.
Jeans are accentuated best by the shoes you wear (see examples in the image gallery below) and by the top you choose to match the jeans with.
In summer, a simple tee will do, and in winter, try layering – wear a white tee or singlet, a jean shirt (open) and a dark biker leather jacket also open worn over the jean shirt – HOT!
When it comes to designer jean labels, True Religion, Levi, Rock & Republic, Diesel, even JAG, all offer edgy, progressive design inspired by rock & roll and bikers with an emphasis on modern silhouettes and sleek fits. And if you hadn’t thunk it already, the denim industry is a trillion dollar heavyweight that has a finger in every fashion label – and the ad campaigns for denim go through the roof – both in originality and price, as denim marketers try to catch your attention.
Ignore the hype and look for the best deals possible: You can get great specials on jeans (particularly at the end of a season), but without a special, a really good pair can be found for around $140 or so if you shop cleverly. This is not unreasonable, a good pair of jeans should last you a long time if taken care of properly.
Here’s a breakdown of the best jeans styles around and a bit of info on what you should pick for you!
Straight and Loose Fit

Straight jeans are cut the same width from thigh to hip and seem to suit most men, especially those a little heavier all round. Straight jeans also suit the older gentleman because they tend to be more classic and traditional but please, please gents DO NOT TUCK your shirts into your jeans unless you have a waist to die for. Big tums accentuated by tucked in shirts are not flattering at all; instead try a dark, untucked shirt with a u-shaped silhouette to make you look slim.
Loose fit jeans have more room on the bottom and thigh by about an inch. They have a tapered leg but it is a bit looser than the classic cut. Loose or relaxed fit jeans are the most popular for men because they generally feel more relaxed and they allow men to move more and be active.

Boot Cut
Western jeans are a similar fit to classic jeans because they have a slim fitting bottom and thigh, but instead of a normal leg they have a boot leg cut which simply means the jeans are tighter around the bottom of the leg.
Slim
‘Slim fit’ is exactly that – slimming and tapered all the way down from thigh to heel. Suited to the slimmer and muscled man.
Tight & Skinny
A trend that’s been around for a while (and that doesn’t look to be going away that quickly either) is the ’skinny jean’ – a blood constricting fit, cut throughout the leg. Tight jeans are particularly popular with teenagers and young adult males. This generation is currently in the midst of a jeans revolution. Skinny jeans are a part of the younger generation’s culture and way of expressing themselves and making their own fashion standards.

Carrot Jeans
Carrot jeans are for the brave. The very, very strong and courageous. This new, and growing trend made for the trend mad youth market is suited to the daring male fashionista. Apparently a brainchild of the Levi Corporation, the style was “inspired by the Tokyo’s underground subcultures and (is) a fresh attitude to an otherwise tired and drab denim world”. As the name suggests the jeans are baggy around the thighs – sometimes excessively roomy a la harem pants – and taper down to a narrow ankle. Not for me folks, not for me, but if you’re game, please rock the carrot by all means!
And finally, here’s a sneak peek at Mangano’s new denim for men ad campaign. HOT!

Football’s Style Twins
Vanity Fair’s October web exclusive on Tiki and Ronde Barber throws these two very dapper and stylish football twins into the spotlight.
For his Vanity Fair interview, Tiki shows up a striped pink-and-white shirt with cuff links, and Ronde, interviewed a month later in Florida, in jeans, a long-sleeved multicolored T-shirt, and aviator sunglasses. Nice, and apparently the fashionistas think so; they made People magazine’s “Sexiest Athletes” in 2001, and Tiki made the International Best-Dressed List in 2001, in 2007, and again in ‘09.
The article makes them out to be an affable, loving, very close and not even jealous of the other pair even though Tiki’s Giants signing bonus was $800,000 and Ronde’s was $300,000 to $400,000. In 2001, Tiki signed a six-year, $25.5 million deal and Ronde a six-year, $18.5 million deal with the Buccaneers, with a $2.5 million guarantee.
However what’s more admirable is not their football careers and check books but their long standing close relationships with their mum, their wives, their kids and most importantly, each other (apparently they never argue!)
It’s a fascinating insight into two men who’ve made it to the top of their game and still maintained their charisma, sexiness, style and values. Read the full Vanity Fair article here.

Let’s talk about Sex-eee-ness…
We’re never ready for that electable feeling of manliness that can creep into our groins when traipsing home from the boxing ring in sweaty Lonsdale’s and smelling not far from an abattoir. But you’re feeling good. Damn Good.
And we’re never expecting the moment when you’ve fully serviced yourself in the shower, sung few tunes of Sinatra or T.I. in the foggy mirror before towelling yourself off like you’re whipping numchucks around your body like your 5pm Ninjitsu class. You hear that Dolce and Gabanna suit calling your name in the next room so you mince on in, as if it’s to be greeted by the girl of your dreams cascading down your pillows. But once dressed, you feel like a garbage bag of beer bottles.
So what is it!
Blame hair loss, even bad lighting – nothing can prepare you for this cruel dichotomy. And what’s even crueller is – Men who possess an innate manliness tend to do the least worrying about how they measure up to the very mystery of sexiness.
So let’s firstly establish one thing – Sexiness has nothing to do with Sex. It’s inextricably linked to sex as a concept but totally separate from the act. Yes fellas, we’ve all head it before, feeling sexy is a state of mind and sex starts in the brain. If you can get into her head – it’s done and dusted. But let’s get back to you.
Despite the preoccupation with sexiness; it gracefully transcends age. You may be feeling threatened by those Gen-Y’s with their uber-cool ‘off the clock’ magnetic pull of every 25 year old kitten that you’ve got your eyes on, but fear not my friend, sexiness has a lot to do with posture, voice intonations, dress code, smell, dimensions of your ‘Guns’ and owning yourself, more than you think. It’s about being at home in your skin and having a healthy dose of Ego (not one that you park in your garage every night).
So, if you’re wanting to hear more about sexiness, how to attract a women through your style, your dress, your tone of voice; we’ve got the e-book for you!

In love, it’s a question of integrity …
The following caught our eye here at MenStylePower and is excerpted from CNN:
A recent Facebook status update: “Maybe it’s just me, but I am extremely uncomfortable with any married man calling me “just to say hi.” Not good! Respect your wife!
Comments flew in … The biggest complaint from most women was that lately some married men have been living double lives. In social settings, these married men partied all night long, while enjoying lingering conversations and exchanges with single women, purposely putting themselves in situations where they can infiltrate the single female scene all the while wearing their wedding bands to make these women feel safe.
Therein ends the CNN excerpt. Which heralds the start of a new series of articles on MenStylePower written by women for men about women (and what they want!!!)
In our first article we look a what it means to love with integrity!!
In a world where flirting has become free-for-all, marriage vows are viewed as antiquated (yet we somehow rush to the altar in hope that somehow, somehwere romance and true love is availabble to us all), and in times when women and men are realising that marriages and relationships take a whole load of work that many people are too tired, busy, heartbroken or cynical to undertake, it’s hard for men and women today to remember how important integrity is in relating to one another, single, married or otherwise.
I recently had a big blow-out with a man who’d been coming on very strong for a while i.e. asking me out, etc but when the rubber hit the road, i.e. I started asking the hard questions i.e. “What do you really want from me?” he stuttered, gazed into space blankly and ran for the hills.
What I really wanted from him was not a lockdown to commitment, but a straight forward answer about what he was after in dating me; a simple “don’t keep a lady guessing” response.
In these crazy days, it seems easier for both men and women to duck responsibility and run from telling the truth and using all sorts of ‘escapisms’ to run away from the perceived drudgery of being in a committed relationship.
Although largerly positive for many, the dating field has widened, driven strongly by the growth of online dating. The relative secrecy of livingroom dating and hidden cyberspace profiles has meant that many a married couple has used the Net to drive back excitement into their lives, though not always with good results.
The Telegraph recently reported a figure by Mark Keenan, Managing Director of Divorce-Online, claiming that out of all divorces they analyzed, 20 percent have traces of Facebook coursing through their petitions.
While Facebook may not have been the root and cause, they say, “inappropriate” chats, wall posts and messages have aided in the unraveling of two in ten marriages. While many of these “hey hot stuffs” may have been innocent(ish), some spouses have uncovered full-blown affairs after a “poke” investigation or some detective work in response to a frisky photo comment or saucy wall flirtation.
Integrity is seen as primarily the formal way in which you see ‘you’ – your identity; and second, that integrity is strongly connected to acting morally – being a person who states the truth and sticks to their words and promises.
Integrity is at the heart of the integration of self; it helps in maintaining your identity; it signifies that you are standing for something good and basic to humanity; it is a virtue with a moral purpose.
So what does is it to be a person of integrity when it comes to ‘love’?
The truth is that if you’re married or in a solid relationship, state it to your world, and remain true to your spouse – you simple cannot eate your cake and eat it too … it’s just not fair to your loved one, but most importantly to yourself as a man or women – to your identity and self worth.
I believe we’re still all capable of being truthful about who we are i.e. walking in the light. It makes for a much more peaceful state of mind especially if you believe in “what goes around, comes around”.
I think its as simple as this: Single gents – never keep the ladies guessing where they stand with you. Single ladies, keep your cool, be graceful, ask a few tough questions and if your man can’t step up to the plate, you stay beautiful BUT step away from his scene!!
Married folks – “No one says that married people and single folks can’t be friends.” But show some respect for yourself, then for those whom you love, on and offline. Keep it real!!
Kay! (The Love Queen)

Oscar G doesn’t wear skinny jeans. Oscar G is a real man.

Woopsie!
Oscar G doesn’t wear skinny jeans. Oscar G is a real man.
When Oscar G (a friend of the StyleMeister) posted the following status on Facebook today “ I don’t wear skinny jeans’” he didn’t expect the mad rush of responses. In just an hour, the man had 45 comments of all them giving the man a big nod.
It seems that although we argue endlessly about the ethics of nuclear war, squabble about who killed Michael Jackson and trade blows on Iraq, there’s one thing we all (all?) unanimously agree on – tight, bum squeeze denim is a definite no-no!
See, the bum squeezer only looks great on anorexic female models and some normal chics. The minute real men try and floss in tight jeans they look like human popsicles – their guts and nether parts are suddenly thrown into relief and wait for it … we all begin to question just how comfortable they are with themselves, (and their sexuality) if they’re constantly mincing around in skeletal jeans and tight trousers.
When you’re trying too hard to fit it all in, it doesn’t work and it shows!
So unless you’re a ditsy Zac Efron, The Jonas Bros, an alien from outer space, Robin Hood or an all American baseball player whose being paid millions to wear them, puhleeeesssse avoid the bum squeezer!
Skinny jeans don’t live here gents because Style 101 for Men is for real men … not posers!

Pinstripes, Suits and Sinatra

Word of the Day: Pinstripe
For a touch of old world Sinatra class that will leave the girls swooning, try the pinstripe in your mens suit choice.
So what size stripe? Hmmmm, it’s hard to tell but a rule of thumb is the larger the stripe the harder to wear. Why? Because it’s super obvious you’re wearing a STRIPE! Restrained is the answer boys! (Pictured; Dior Homme’s latest stripe … superb larger stripe but dare you carry it off?)
TIP: For a modern take on the pinstripe for mens fashion we strongly suggest wearing a pinstripe that is subtly updated with a slim stripe. There’s even a new mens suit style that incorporates broken stitching that’s also effective and pimpin’ cool.
Pinstripes will take you from the boardroom to the restaurant, and effortlessly kill the competition left right and centre, so you do your thang with style and elegance. Quite chivalrous don’t you think?

Digital prints – Bring out the animal in you!

"Hear me ROAR? See me ROAR"
Digital prints can add a surreal level of modernism to traditional mens clothing like the classic blazer, as pictured here in Alexander McQueen’s Spring/Summer 2010 range. A superb way to dress up after a day at the office, just adding this ‘busy’ piece over something quite minimal.
These hi-tech psychedelic effects have arrived post Christopher Kane’s Gorilla T-shirts that were an absolute hits in last year’s fashion style on the runways. Digital prints – guaranteed to bring out the animal in you!
